CA shops, Updates & More Big News!

I completely forgot to share with you the stitching stores I went to while in California-
First up is Needle in a Haystack. What a great store!  It is located in a semi-commercial area, thus the tall ceilings. It has a huge inventory of patterns, thread, accessories, and a fabulous wall of fabric.

Next is 2 the Point needlepoint store.  Threads galore, great selection of painted canvases and one-on-one stitching help if needed. There was a lesson going on while we were there.

We also went to a quilt store called Thimblecreek close to our hotel in Concord.  And I found a real bargain.  It is a Crabapple Hill kit of the Pieces of the Past quilt pattern.    I struggle with fabric selection and the fabric in the kit is perfect for me (dusty/shabby rose selections).  It was on clearance-marked down from $249 to $130!! That is my kind of deal :)

I also found a book by Red Brolly a designer I admire from Australia.

After spending all day this past Saturday and Sunday at a sampler guild stitch-in, you'd think I'd have more to share stitching-wise, I got a lot of border stitching done.  Here is the latest-

2013 Grills de Maryse SAL
February section is completed.  It's hard to tell from the photo but the fabric is a chocolate-cherry color.  I'm using Gloriana Fresh Snow silk thread.  My first monochromatic project.

More Success!
I was able to find Miss Hannah's House by Carolyn Standing Webb.  This is so cute!  Feel free to click on the pic to enlarge.  It is the kit, not just the pattern.  So I'm tickled.

**I'm still looking for Thistle Threads A Sailor's Blessing Etui and Merry Cox's Swan Lake.**

I wanted to share this photo with you.  The little girl on the left is DD#1 wearing a smocked dress that my mother made in 1982.  She was 18 months old. The little girl on the right is Amber wearing the same dress a couple of months ago.  It has been stashed in my cedar chest all this time and is still in beautiful shape.

Which brings me to the Big News as stated on the post title-
Amber's mom and dad announced at her first birthday party that she will be a big sister in September!  Woo Hoo!
They are hoping for a boy this time.  DH and I are hoping for another healthy baby-either sex is fine with us. That will make grandchild #3.

Grandson is turning 8 this week.  Here's the latest with him-

Duct Tape Super Hero!!

Have a great week!

Congratulations on the news of a future grandchild! So exciting! I love seeing the pics of mom and baby in the same dress -- how special is that! Lovely stitching! And thanks for the peeks at the shops in CA. Great bargain on the Crab Apple kit!

What wonderful shops you visited! I could spend a lot of time (and a lot of money) in there. I'll bet Masterchief is glad we don't have a LNS.
Wonderful news! Congratulations to all.

Oh Teresa, looking at all the great pictures from stitching stores makes me want to drive to one right away - the bad thing is there aren't any of this kind within any driving distance, lol. But my stash is big enough, so I'll be doing some stash diving instead.
The quilt kit that you purchased looks gorgeous. And what a bargain. Those colours would appeal to me as well. Have fun making this quilt.

What lovely news! Congratulations :) The baby dress looks amazing! I have a little crochet dress that was made for me over 40 years ago, that both my daughter's have worn and it still looks as beautiful as the day it was given to my mum :) I am so envious about your shops! Such a range of products! Then again...maybe it's a good thing that the one closest to me does not stock charts and fabric or my poor credit card would be maxxed out!

I love the pic of your DD and granddaughter in the same dress. Your SAL piece is really pretty. Those LNS look wonderful. I have been to two down here in Southern California, but they're not as big and roomy!

I am jealous! I would love to go to Needle in a Haystack! Looks like you made some good purchases. Congrats on the new grandbaby. My sons had to look at the photo of your grandson. The love of duct tape only gets worse as they get older.
